The Cité du Train is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, so it’s time to report on the latest news in the TEE sector1.
On a sunny Tuesday, March 18th, we set off with our cameras in hand. Come aboard the TEE trains that have given rise to legends! You are at the “Cité du Train” in Mulhouse, Europe’s largest railway museum with an SNCF TEE zone!

Outside, you can marvel at a new Mistral-type A4Dtux Fourgon generator car. The SNCF Mistral 69 B3½Dtuxj 63 87 89-89 093-3 is now restored and on display at the museum in Mulhouse. Designed and built by Carel & Fouché in 1974 as a company car.

The A4Dtuxj was originally registered under the number 61 87 81-89 725-0. Equipped in the first half with a 660 V three-phase 50 Hz 580 kVA generator set to power the other cars, a small van section serving as a luggage compartment, and two service compartments. The other half is used as a first-class compartment with 21 seats, so this car is (was) truly a multi-talented vehicle.
Under the chassis, the multi-talented generator also has a lot to offer: Two connected fuel tanks with a capacity of 1,500 liters supply the engine, and a 100-liter tank of treated water for engine cooling are also installed.



With so much fuel, culinary delights shouldn’t be neglected either. The Mistral dining car now offers more flexible options. Here, you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of 1970 and enjoy a culinary journey aboard this legendary train-car restaurant from the TEE era. This Inox Mistral (1974) on display has its best days ahead of it. I was lucky enough to be able to photograph the car with a group of people as I walked by, or rather, “snapshoot” it!

The Capitole has also been gently renovated in the museum and now shines in new splendor. The BB 9291 from 1963 speaks for itself; it was designed and built to power the “Le Capitole” express trains between Paris and Toulouse (712.3 km). The BB 9200 primarily hauled the Mistral between 1965 and 1970. The actual TEE Capitole was towed by a CC 6500 for performance reasons and reached speeds of 200 km/h with up to 11 or 12 cars.

Incidentally, the SNCF CC 6526 “Le Capitole” also dates back to Era IV with a Co-Co wheel arrangement, built from 1970 onwards (CC 6501-6578). So, there are the BB and CC as the names of Le Capitole.
The final update I noticed were the two TEE locomotives in the separate section: CC 40101 and CC 6572.



The CC 6572 (Alsthom MTE, 1975) and the CC 40101 (Alsthom, 1964) can now be admired with a cool light show. The two TEE locomotives, Aquitaine with the Résistance-Fer blason, and the CC 40101, have been enhanced with a small light show, revealing their own varied history.
I also found some of the original signs (blason ou écussons en france) of various locomotives; Les écussons (blasons) qui se trouvent sur les locomotives indiquent que la ville en question est la marraine de la loc, du TGV de la rame, etc. Le blason Chalindrey par examples de la CC72130, loc radiée en octobre 2017 et sauvegardée à la Cité du Train de Mulhouse. Speaking of Aquitaine, the new SNCF electric locomotive CC 6530 (#16612) from Minitrix is worth a purchase for N gauge. This locomotive pulled high-quality passenger trains, including the TEE Aquitaine from Paris-Austerlitz to Bordeaux-Saint-Jean. It was for the first time a non-stop ride over 580 km in 4 h!
Matching car sets for this locomotive are available under numbers 15691 and 15692. A built-in digital decoder and sound generator for operation with mfx and DCC, and engraved train signs on the front of the locomotive, round out this impressive model.
Let’s stay with the CC 6500 and switch to the H0 scale. Jouef H0 is launching the SNCF electric locomotive CC 6526 in Era IV. This special model celebrating 80 years of Jouef comes in an attractive box (anniversary box).
La CC 6502 “Mistral” de la SNCF est une locomotive électrique mythique, reproduite ici à l’échelle N (1:160) avec une livrée argent d’origine fidèle à l’époque IV (1971-1990). Model: Swiss TEE Edweiss set consists of one locomotive, one driving trailer and two coaches. LS Models 17501 Set is high detail with full interiors and directional red/white lighting. Locomotive is very heavy and comes equipped with a powerful can motor with flywheels. This was a very limited set which will never be made again because the producer “Modern Gala” is no longer in business and the tooling was lost.
